Abstract:

Cloud computing has received significant attention in recent years as a result of the options it offers to users who wish to obtain resources on-demand. In order to manage workloads, cloud computing service providers need to implement mechanisms that allow the scaling up and down of the infrastructure on demand. At the same time providers aim to maximize resource utilization and minimize running costs. From their side, users need to have a good understanding of their applications to take advantage of the elastic properties of the infrastructure.

This course will provide an overview of work related to different aspects of cloud computing. It will consider both specific applications, such as workflows and streaming, and how they can take advantage of cloud computing and the challenges for service-oriented infrastructure. The course will last for two days and will include lectures and two practical sessions where attendees will work on tasks set by the lecturers.
